TEE TIME IN THE CAPITAL
Business took a breather as leading Real Estate Executives
teed off for the cityscape Abu Dhabi Golf Classic - Dated: April 19, 2009

Over 120 leading real estate industry professionals competed in two-man teams to vie for the title of Cityscape Abu Dhabi Golf Classic champions, sponsored by Meedar Real Estate. The tournament returned to the Abu Dhabi National Golf Club, which is regarded as one of the region’s leading golf venues and which has been called a ‘super course’ by members of the world’s golfing press. The afternoon competition allowed all players to enjoy the excitement, friendly competition and camaraderie that can only be experienced by playing with fellow real estate industry peers. In the main team competition, the afternoon provided some outstanding golf with the tight fairways and numerous water hazards causing the downfall of many team aspirations. When all the scores had been counted, the winning team and tournament champions were Charles Armestad and Stephen De Stadler, with Alex Drinkwater and Jim Foster close runners-up. Commenting on the tournament, Rohan Marwaha, managing director of Cityscape, said: “It was a great day and this is an event we always look forward to organising within the Cityscape calendar. Everyone has enjoyed themselves and it is fantastic to see the whole industry come together for a fun-packed afternoon. It is an extremely worthwhile experience and great to be able to relax before what will be a very busy week”. Event organiser, Ken Jamieson of IIR, added: “This annual event is the perfect precursor to the week ahead. It feels great to be out on the course, with so many excellent players, in the spirit of healthy competition.” The golfing fun was mixed with a certain degree of ‘shop talk’, as Marwaha remarked: “The current state-of-play of the industry cropped up a few times, and is definitely going to be a hot topic throughout the week along with issues of funding availability and government legislation.” The coveted trophy was presented by Nejoud Nasr, CEO of tournament sponsor Meedar Real Estate, during a delicious buffet dinner at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club clubhouse which wrapped up the day’s golfing excitement ahead of a busy week of networking activities which kick off tomorrow with the start of Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2009.

Meedar Real Estate in RUSS!A Investment Roadshow

On 10-11 November 2008, the Atlantis The Palm hotel hosted the first ever Russia Investment Roadshow in Dubai.

 
The conference, which looked at a wide range of bi-lateral trade and investment opportunities, was organised by Eventica and the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs. It was the largest ever Russia-focussed business event to be held in the UAE, opening the door to a wide range of new cooperation between Russia and the Gulf.Key investors and holding companies from the Emirates, including Dubai World and Abu Dhabi Investment Council, met with Russian Railways, PIK Group and other leading Russian firms and conglomerates, to discuss cooperation in a variety of areas.

The Roadshow was attended by more than 650 delegates, including 120 journalists. Participants took part from Russia, the Gulf, Europe, Africa, Asia and the United States. An intensive two-day programme with more than 80 speakers on 13 sessions featured discussions on the fallout of the global economic crisis, and a look at opportunities in the energy, real estate, infrastructure and other sectors, as well as a lively roundtable of Russian and Arab businesswomen.

The Roadshow opened in the spectacular Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi with the Russian Rhapsody gala dinner, which featured a performance from well known Russian soprano Maria Maksakova and a special address from HE Salah Salem Bin Omair Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

Plans are already underway for a follow-up event in Dubai in 2009, and for taking the Roadshow to other destinations around the world.
